![]() ![]() Sometimes I want tons, others I could take it or leave it. But, to stay with my hardcover collection, I had to grab this one! I have owned the first book in the series for a few months, but kept putting it off because I wanted to read Alice in Wonderland first (which these books are very clearly modeled after). ![]() The covers are beautiful, the illustrations within the pages are beautiful. The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Lead the Revels There by Catherynne M. When I saw this, I almost died, because I have never seen it in a bookstore before (not that I looked that hard, but I did look a few times!) McPartlin is Irish, and sells much better overseas than here, but I couldn’t NOT grab this for the $3.00 it cost me. I tried to read another one of hers after, but it didn’t grab me in the same way. I have a goal to finish the series in 2014, so I picked this up, because I want to completely immerse myself in the story and the fandom! (I also picked up the entire set of 8 films on Amazon for $40 on Boxing Day!!! Talk about a deal!)Īnna McPartlin is the author of one of my favourite books: Pack Up the Moon. I didn’t finish the books as a kid, and decided to purchase the gorgeous new editions (illustrated by one of my all time faves, Kazu Kibuishi) and start over. I’ve been getting pretty heavy into Harry Potter again. I know this will probably be nothing LIKE Elizabethtown, but I’m sold regardless. The first page of this book is two siblings discussing their father’s death and it made me instantly think about the beginning of Elizabethtown, which is one of my favourite movies. This is Where I Leave You by Jonathon Tropperįinding out that Tina Fey was going to be in the movie adaptation made me instantly want to read this - along with THIS video from a member of the Kobo team. A family drama that is crazy, funny and heartfelt? Yes, please! Also, the movie buzz this one is getting is pretty intriguing! I have seen this book so many times and it makes me think of a cross between Andrew Kaufman’s Born Weird, Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple, and The Radley’s by Matt Haig. Maybe I will start here, and go back to Lamb after! ![]() This one is supposed to be one of his best and is BELOVED by so many. I have always wanted to go back and read the entire thing again, but have yet to do so. ![]() I read parts of Lamb years ago, and LOVED it. I can’t wait to give this one a shot too! It is wonderful and the writing is superb. But what finally made me go and pick it up, was having just started Eating Animals by Foer. She raved about the multi-media function of it, with pictures, letters, drawings and more sprinkled through the text. This has been on my radar for years, after my friend Danika read and loved it. Since I only really go once a year, I CLEAN UP. Their prices are the same, but the organization of the warehouse (and their website) has been wildly improved. The Book Depot recently underwent renovations and is now called Book Outlet. No matter where they come from, all that sets them apart from your average bookstore experience is a red or black stripe from a permanent marker on the bottom or top of the pages (to mark that it is a remainder book) and perhaps a little wear-and-tear from transportation and shelf-life. Some of these have sat in bookstores, unsold, for ages. The warehouse is yards and yards of every kind of book you can imagine, for the cheapest price you can find for new books. Catharines, Ontario - which basically means that it has tons of old (and new) books that were overstocked, over-printed or over-bought by publishers and bookstores. It has become a Christmas tradition to visit The Book Depot each year. ![]()
